A Lightfoot & Wolfville Wedding

Locate Nova Scotia’s Fundy Shore on a satellite photo. Then shift your focus slightly to the south until you find the community of Annapolis Royal. Now follow the Annapolis River to the east as it winds through Moschelle, Granville Centre, Roundhill, Belleisle, Upper Granville, Bridgetown, Paradise . . .

With each bend, with each meander there appears an increase in the amount of farm land along either bank. The patchwork of fields, orchards and pastures intensifies as you reach Kentville, New Minas, Wolfville and the roots of the Cornwallis River before reaching a peak as you reach the shores of the Minas Basin. Every shade of green imaginable, with a dash of red soil for character. Nestled within that crescendo, alongside the old highway is Lightfoot & Wolfville. Another shade of green from the air, but so much more once you’re on the ground.

A Bridgetown Wedding

The early morning sun and I chased the fog westwards - the light slowly burning away the mist and revealing more and more of the Valley as I made my way to Bridgetown. Apple orchards, rolling fields and century homes as far as the eye can see. I arrived a bit early and decided to explore - a sign for Valleyview Provincial Park caught my eye and I followed Church Street north to the entrance of the park.

What a view.

A similar feeling to standing on top of the Look Off as you approach Blomidon in the East. Minus the Minas Basin, but not lacking in grandeur. What a rich province we live in, and what a rich part of the Valley. Endless history and character. Brightly painted homes and gardens full of blooming irises. A fantastic start to the day.

This was a special one. A day that was a long time in the making. Years. A true small town wedding where stories aren’t necessarily told - they’re recounted to the tune of laughter and tears. When everything comes full circle and everyone involved recognizes the fact that what is taking place makes perfect sense.

It always has.

Sweating it out under high humidity. Watching columns of dark clouds traverse the sky. Darting from one building to the next as it rains sideways. Cleaning up after the birds in the barn. Trying to keep the tent tied down. All the while maintaining the most amazing sense of humour. Staying positive. Looking forward to the ceremony. To the party. Watching smiles grow wider as each guest arrives. The number of embraces multiplying. Don't sweat the small stuff. Enjoy everything else. That's the best thing you can do.
